Leo Bailey is cantankerous and burned out by booze.
He is also one of Australia's national treasures. A gifted painter and chronic alcoholic he can no longer take care of himself. His daughter has a fraught relationship with him and, out of a sense of loyalty, has tried to provide him with a minder.
But they have been unable or unwilling to tolerate Leo's excesses.
Enter Therese, fresh out of gaol and determined to make a go of what seems like her last chance.
This play is about last chances, beauty and what turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. It reveals men and women who, despite being scarred by life's experiences, rise above the mundane.
"Leo paints ordinary stuff and ordinary people but his picture'II make them look special - make them look beautiful and glowing ••• But it's not tizzying things up. It's like Leo can see the specialness inside a thing so when a person looks at the painting they can see it too:'
