The New Zealand Dance Company Presented by arrangement with Arts Projects Australia with support from Creative New Zealand's Touring Australia Initiative

Rotunda

In a first for GPAC, we welcome The New Zealand Dance Company and the Geelong West Brass Band with a new work that brings to life the world of the band rotunda as an iconic symbol of community.

Rotunda is inspired by war stories, with the work honouring the themes of loyalty, courage and loss. It is a world where the strength and beauty of powerful live brass collides with that of these extraordinary dancers. And it celebrates the contributions made by brass bands to the soldiers, their families and communities.

Rotunda marks the 2014 – 2018 centenary of New Zealand and Australia’s involvement in the First World War. The production, created in collaboration with singer, songwriter and composer Don McGlashan (An Angel at My Table), draws from the indomitable spirit

of these ANZAC men, and the women who set about running the country with aching hearts and dread that their men might not return.
