The hunt is on again for Geelong’s funniest people.
Fledgling comedians will put their best foot forward in the Geelong qualifying heat of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s RAW Comedy competition on Saturday, 10th February.
RAW Comedy is the annual search for Australia’s as yet undiscovered wit – it’s where the nation’s best and boldest comedy athletes walk comedy’s ultimate high wire.
Heats are currently being held across the State. The best in show will then proceed through to the Preliminary Finals from 1st March, and then the State Final on 26th March.
The best of the best, nationally, will battle it out for the RAW Comedy crown at the National Grand Final during the Melbourne Comedy Festival in April – the winner scores a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe. Last year’s winner was Victorian Zack Dyer.
The Geelong heat will feature special guest compere - comedian Ivan Aristeguieta, a stand-up comedian from Venezuela who now calls Australia home.
Each contestant will present five minutes of new, original comedy material including stand-up, sketch, double and triple acts, as well as musical comedy. And for those who don’t fancy providing the laughs, just enjoying them, all heats are open to the public, so come along and keep an eye out for the next big thing in comedy.
Previous RAW Comedy competitors who reached new heights through the competition include Chris Lilley,Josh Thomas, Hannah Gadsby, Peter Helliar, Claire Hooper, Ronny Chieng,Celia Pacquola,LukeMcGregor, and Geelong’s own Jonathan Schuster.
